Where you are from originally, and where do you live now? I am originally Brookfield, IL (about 15 minutes from Chicago) and have bounced around the Midwest for my education.  I did my undergrad in the Quad Cities at Augustana College, and my graduate degree at Illinois State University in Normal, IL.  I just relocated to Indiana, and will be living in Bloomington, IN for my first year here!

What got you interested in working in pediatrics and for A Step Ahead? I just finished my last graduate school internship at a pediatric clinic that was similar to A Step Ahead, and absolutely loved the experience.  I love working with children and creating unique activities/games to make therapy a fun and engaging experience.  I think pediatrics really fits my personality. I heard about the job opening at A Step Ahead online, and fell in love with the clinic after my interview.

How long you’ve been working for A Step Ahead? I started in late June of 2013!

Areas of expertise: expressive language development, articulation, augmentative and alternative communication, phonological intervention

Hobbies and interests: I enjoy hiking, canoeing, biking, anything outdoors! I can’t wait to explore the Brown County and Columbus area!

Where you are from originally, and where do you live now? I was born and raised in Columbus, IN.  Over the past 6 years I have lived in various places, primarily Indiana (Muncie, Trafalgar). I recently moved back to Columbus, IN from Boone, NC where my husband is completing graduate school.  I attended Ball State University for my undergraduate and graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

What got you interested in working in pediatrics and for A Step Ahead? During my undergraduate and graduate studies I gained experience in a clinic, developmental preschool, hospital, and elementary school.  In all these settings I served the pediatric population and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Kids have so much potential waiting to be unlocked.  It is very rewarding how much progress can be made in such a short amount of time.  I love being around such energetic young people and it truly blesses me.  I stumbled upon an opening at A Step Ahead and pursued it.  Once I visited, observed, and communicated over the phone, I fell in love with this place.  The way therapies are provided and the lovely staff was so enticing.

How long have you been working for A Step Ahead? I have been working for A Step Ahead since April 2014.  It already feels like I’m a part of the team.

Areas of expertise: At this point I have a lot of knowledge to put into practice and much to learn.  I am confident in treating articulation and language disorders.  I would like to be an expert in traumatic brain injuries and be certified in Vital Stim.

What are your hobbies and interests? I really love being active outdoors, experiencing God’s creation.  My husband and I enjoy hiking, running, tennis, and cycling.  I also really like to be involved at my local church, especially with the youth.  I desire to be very community oriented and someday start a family.
